“GIFTS IN SHITTY WRAPPING PAPER” - How to Turn Adversity into Ambition

If there’s a topic Jules knows inside out, it’s this one. Through overcoming her own personal challenges, she now lives by the mantra that our biggest challenges in life are our greatest gifts.

We don’t always have a say over what it is that we experience in life. How do we take all of our experiences, good or bad, and turn them in to our greatest asset?

Resilience keeps you alive where as overcoming adversity, armed with the right tool kit, provides you with an opportunity to thrive. It’s not what happens to us in life that defines us. It’s what we chose to do with it.

In this presentation Jules leaves her audience absolutely spellbound as she delicately intertwines her personal trials with a tried and tested theory for, not just overcoming your ordeal, but striving as a result of it. She inspires even the most troubled person and restores a sound belief in their sense of purpose.

Resilience would have to be the hottest, most talked about topics of recent times. What if I were to suggest that we are missing the mark and that resilience, alone, is not enough.

The truth is we are born resilient. We are born hard wired for struggle.

Western society, especially our younger generation, seem entirely at odds with the world. The suicide rate in Australia is at an all time high and self harm is an epidemic. Resilience is not a flawed concept, but it is not the backbone to success…in life or otherwise.

What I have come to understand as the most valuable tool for success and fulfilment is ‘Acceptance’. There are two clear barriers to acceptance in the Western world, The first being the illusion of control and the second being judgement…of ourselves. There is an underlying assumption in the privileged world that what we experience should not have happened to us, therefore we indulge in denial as opposed to acceptance.

Until you accept , you simply cannot move forward. It is paramount. If you are lost, the first thing you need to accept is that you are lost before you can find your way out. The moment you accept your reality, you have a choice over what you then do with your experience. What is congruent with all the great leaders of the world. Mandela, Luther King, Obama…they accepted their experiences and humbly used them as a means to strive.

Resilience implies that you carry on in spite of. Acceptance provides you with the opportunity to carry on because of!

As a part of this presentation you will learn:

  • How to capitalise on your most challenging experiences
  • The art of acceptance
  • How to challenge all that your pre conceived ideas and societal norms
  • Never to waste an experience
  • How to strive and not just survive
  • How to relinquish the illusion of control
  • How to lead from a place of acceptance and not control
